What kind of study should Zen people engage in to support their practice and living? What kind of books are good for beginners advanced and senior students of Zen? What would be good to read to get an insight into the Zen Buddhism?

For beginners the ZAZENGI, Instructions on how to practice Zazen. Then you understand what the important points of zazen are. In order to see why we do training, you can read "The Ten Ox-herding Pictures". In order to understand about the workings of mind, you can read " On Believing in Mind" (Shinjinnomei). In order to understand about the enlightenment of the Buddha, you can read "Song of Enlightenment" (Shodoka). And once you have ripened in your practice, then you can read the records of Rinzai.
