Wash away the discriminating shadow...

< Back to Question and Answer

I recently completed a four day sesshin. This was my first. It was a powerful experience for me. I can not see another path for my life. I see that there is nothing to do but follow the teaching. What can you tell me?

In order to be able to continue true zen practice, it is important to have a deep wish for the happiness of all beings. If you sit for your own happiness alone, it will come to a dead end at one point. Your mind is called Buddha Nature. We all have habits and our ego. When we sit zazen we wash these habits and our ego, in order to return to our pure mind free of habits, before our ego existed. Once you have awakened to your pure mind, you will see that this path with a deep vow was not mistaken. When you practice Zazen you can realize your inner „God“, or „Buddha Nature“. Wishing to give your whole life to the happiness of all beings, what else can there be but god in everyone? The joy of others is your joy, the sadness of humans is your sadness, where else could a Buddha Nature be found? To realize this pure mind is the practice of zazen and is the path to realize true humanity.
