Surely zen practitioners only sit because they are in fact attached to sitting and the feelings of peace and ease that come from sitting? In other words they just want an easy life for themselves a little more comfort together with the illusion of control. Is it worthy to seek only comfort?

For whichever reason people might sit, it is important to actually do sit. But Zazen is not only about sitting quietly. That would only be for the comfort of a small self. But once your mind becomes calm, then you can also share this calmness with others. It can even become a calmness that goes beyond the question of “life and death”. With the guidance of a true teacher you are able to go beyond this protective layer. Please do practice in this way, that you can share your happiness with others and that your eye, that can see beyond birth and death, may be opened.
