How does one practice Zen when involved in intellectual work where one's energy becomes very focuses in thinking and mental effort?
December 30, 2015, 9:50 amWe live in society. Zen is about awakening to the true self. It is not always possible to live both aspects completely. Yet your work is the place of training, pulling weeds, cleaning, working in the garden, those simple tasks are zazen as is. That is why it would be good to find some simple jobs you need to do in your daily life. That would be most helpful, to take those daily tasks as training. Yet what is more important is the question: is your livelihood or your samadhi more important? If is it the samadhi, then you need to find a true teacher, do sanzen daily, otherwise it is difficult to dig deeper into your mind while living in society. Please actualize it for yourself.
