DAILY ZAZEN SCHEDULE

Choka (morning chanting) starts at 5:00 a.m.
Morning Zazen              5:40 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Evening Zazen              6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

We do zazen (sitting meditation) in periods of 30 minutes with a few minutes of break in between.  Please be in the Zendo and on a cushion ten minutes before zazen begins.  If you arrive after a period has started, please wait in the entrance area on a cushion until the period ends before coming into the Zendo.  Chairs and kneeling benches are available.

Residents of the Monastery follow this schedule; however, non-residents are welcome to drop in anytime for one or more periods without previous announcement.

WEEKLY SUNDAY ZAZENKAI - OCTOBER 2016

Every Sunday at 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.
OCTOBER  2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Zazenkai includes sutra chanting, zazen, short Qigong exercise, and a brief reading from texts by Shodo Harada Roshi. Afterward, tea and sweets are served in the dining hall, and there is an opportunity for questions, discussion, and conversation.

OCTOBER SESSHIN WITH DAICHI ZENNI

Kokuhō           Monday Evening, October 17 - 8:00 pm
Kosesshin       Tuesday October 18 - Saturday October 22 (5 days).

This year Daichi Zenni will return to Tahoma to lead a five day training period in mid-October. This will have the same schedule as other kosesshins (and will include sanzen), but will be more open to people's comings and goings. This means that people can come for one day, a few days, or all five days. It is also possible to come for mornings or evenings only.

Given the less formal nature of this sesshin, there will be no registrar, kitchen manager or set fee for the period. We will work together to implement the daily schedule of morning sutras, zazen, work and meals. Chi-san will be giving morning and evening sanzen.

All who wish to participate are welcome. As this period of practice is intended to be a bit more free-form than usual, there is no set fee charged for the period; but participants are encouraged to consider what kind of dana (offering) may be suitable as a contribution for their time spent here (perhaps $ 20/day, or some kind of food offering for the kitchen).

Housing will be provided as people join the sesshin. Those who wish to camp on the site are welcome to bring their own tents and sleeping bags.

If you are interested in attending, please send us an email at tahoma@whidbey.com letting us know your plans. Please include “October Sesshin” in the subject line.
