How Sussokan Came to Basel

During our short stay in Japan in 1986 my husband and me visited our friends Hosan, Doji and Domyo at Sogenji. We had known each other since our practice at Taillé, a Zen center in France, under the charge of Taikan Jyoji, a disciple of Mumon Yamada Roshi.

Shodo Harada Roshi gave us a friendly welcome and thanks to Daichi's intercession we could take part in a week's Kosesshin. That week remained a marked experience for me.

My new job in 1992 enabled me to take some time off. Through the mediation of Taikan Jyoji and the support of my husband I could spend 6 months at Sogenji in Japan.

Shodo Harada Roshi taught me a lot during that time. More than his words,

patiently translated by Daichi, it was rather his profound presence and his non-action that touched me deeply. His presence showed me the true essence of zazen in all ist facets.

Back in Basel, on account of a new job, I acquired a room for zazen practice

and decided to make Shodo Harada's gift available for people interested in the Spiritual Way.

Thus Sussokan came to Basel and is regularly practised at Itteki Zendo.

Due to Roshi's busy schedule this year, we are currently not accepting any new questions at this time
