Mumon Roshi Memorial

Today is the 24th, the memorial day of Yamada Mumon Roshi. He actually died on the 24th of December, but since he is our direct ancestor in the Dharma lineage, we do express our thankfulness for his efforts and teaching on the 24th of each month, wearing white Tabi socks for the morning sutras and reading the Daihishu sutra while standing.

In Japanese Buddhist tradition, there are certain memorial years after a person´s passing that are of major importance. After a person has passed on, the first seven weeks a sutra is read, then the first, third, seventh, thirteenth, seventeenth year as well. This year is the 25th memorial year after Mumon Roshi´s passing, and in October there will be a memorial ceremony held in Shofukuji Kobe and in November in Reiunin Kyoto.

Due to Roshi's busy schedule this year, we are currently not accepting any new questions at this time
