The Umpan - 雲版 - "cloud board" hanging in the hallway of Sogenji, is being struck with a wooden mallet to announce the meals being ready and served. Struck in the usual shutto pattern OooOoO...OooO ending with the Roshi or head monk arriving at the table.

This piece is made in 1698 with the inscription of the date on one side and Gokokusan Sogenji on the other.
