Pickle analogy by the Roshi

Harada Roshi often likens the stone weight on pickles to the older generation of people. The elders are a heavy weight for the younger ones in the sense that through their life experience they demand certain values and stick to beliefs, yet without this weight from the elders, the younger generations, the pickles would simply rot. Thus it is obvious that there is the need for the weight of the stones, to keep society aligned. In the modern world, if we are not careful, the meaning of the elders is getting lost.
