In 1990, Tim (Jundo) Williams, who hadbeen sitting with a group in Columbia, Missouri, that called itselfthe Columbia Zen Center, travelled to Japan and met Shodo Harada. Someyears later his wife, Jane (Shotaku) Lago, also travelled to Sogenji.

During the years that they sat with theColumbia Zen Center Jundo drew the illustrations for the Roshi'sfirst book, Morning Dewdrops of the Mind, and Shotaku workedon compiling the Roshi's second book, The Path to Bodhidharma.Later, the two worked together to edit Moon by the Window.

In the late 1990s, Mitra Biship Senseitraveled to Columbia on several occasions to hold weekend sesshinswith the group, and a number of members travelled to Japan to train atSogenji.
